this class is way fun!
i really do enjoy it.
im learning lots and it's fun to release more of my creative side.
and sometimes...my floor looks like so...
please excuse the dirty flip flop... it's from playing beach volleyball in wet sand.
and the sleeping bag is for next weekend and i don't have anywhere else to put it...
update on this class:
i walked into my class and had all my file folders and pages put together for this project. i looked around and everyone else had this HUGE stack of papers. I was kinda puzzled for a second and thought, "oh well maybe they forgot that you can have more than one element per page." But...it still seemed like so much more than i had. they teacher asked what the hardest part of the assignment was and my peers started saying things that were unfamiliar to me and then I really started to freak out.
don't even worry.
i didn't see there was a second page to this assignment.
only half was complete.
i have been so stressed out with midterms and my new calling and everything that is going on that i just kinda shrugged it off and thought, "what's done is done. and all i can do is receive credit for what i have accomplished." i decided that i was going to talk with my teacher after class and explain why i had so little compared to everyone else.
b.l.e.s.s..h.e.r..h.e.a.r.t.
she said to me, "oh don't even worry! just turn it in to me when you have time to finish it. it's not a big deal. things like this happen and the instructions didn't mention a second page. just write me a note and stick it in the front of the first folder to remind me. :)"
can do!
another update:
i am taking a sociological theory class. i have 2 classes with this teacher and there is so much involved in both of them that sometimes i feel like all i do is read theory after theory, do worksheets, write papers, go to city council meetings etc. last night i stayed up very late to try and finish a midterm due for the first class that i didn't review (i read it, just hadn't reviewed) what we were going to cover for the second class i have with this professor. she opened it up for discussion and people were making comments -- my professor made a comment and i guess my face looked puzzled cuz she asked me a question. **you must know, if i do not know the answer to a question, i'm not going to try and B.S. my way through it in front of people. i would rather just own the fact that i don't know how to answer it.** and that is exactly what i did. i think i had zoned out or something because i really had not a clue what she was asking. so i told her, "i really don't know..."
after class i was talking with one of my classmates and my professor comes up to me and kinda pulls me aside and says, "andrea, you are more brilliant than you give yourself credit for." and we talked about what had happened and it was soooooo nice to talk to her one on one. i am the kind of person that i understand what i read, i really do. but when we open it for discussion, how people ask the questions, it takes me a while to process and grasp it. i analyze and have to think about what they asked and what i think about it -- i refuse to let anything come out of my mouth without it having be polished, refined, and ready for "presentation" so to speak in an academic setting.
guess what?
my professor is the same way.
we are also similar in this manner.
i can listen to a lecture and be really engaged and follow a long, yada yada ya. but when something the professor says hooks me, i go off and think about that concept. it looks like i am spacing, but i am really thinking about what was said a couple minutes ago still and applying it to me. it was funny she brought this concept up because with the discussion in our first class, this exact thing happened. i have learned this about me and i can recognize when it is happening and i quickly jump back into the group and try to find where the conversation is now. it is very frustrating in a classroom setting, but it is how my brain works and all i can do is try to catch it when it happens so i can stay focused.
anyway, i thanked my professor for talking to me after calss (10 minutes into my next class actually) because it was nice for us to establish this connection and for both of us to know where the other is coming from. AND that we are very similar in such a manner.
which brings me to this.
a testimony building experience.
i always knew that when you were being productive, the Lord would bless you.
i got that.
but seeing it work in my own life,
that was the testimony builder.
i am constantly doing something.
when it's not homework,
it's church, friends, insitute committee functions, sports, etc.
and i know that the Lord knows i am trying to be successful in life. i am trying to cover all my bases and be productive and not be idle. and having these professors treat me in such a way only proves Heavenly Father is looking out for me.
and it solidifies, once again, that he is pleased with what i am doing, with what i am accomplishing.
i honestly could not be more happier with life.
even with all the stress.
even with all the excitement.
even with all the activities.
even with the constant "new-ness"
life is FANtastic.
this smile is plastered on my face, and this feeling is incredible.
they both are here to stay for a while, and i am a-okay with that. :)
